Bring Light

November 20 – Bring Light

“That where there is darkness, I may bring light. (Today)” — Prayer of Saint Francis

In Pulp Fiction, Jules has a spiritual awakening right in front of everyone. His heart softens, and one moment changes his course — going from hitman to shepherd, from taking lives to trying to lead them. “I’m trying, Ringo. I’m trying real hard to be the shepherd.” It’s not perfect, but it’s real.

Just walking into an AA meeting changes my course too. It says, “Hey, I found the solution here — and you might too, if we both do what they did. I’m curious to find out more.” And just like Jules, I don’t have to get it all at once — I just have to try. Try to walk through that door, try to keep an open mind, and see what happens without forcing it. In that simple action of trying, We have the ability to be an example that brings light to darkness.

A guy once said in a meeting, “There’s usually someone here in their first 30 days of sobriety and someone in their last 30 days.” You never know who you’re setting an example for. My purpose now is to show up — show up sober — and see what happens. That light shines brighter than any words I could ever say.

When was the last time you realized just trying was enough to let the light back in?
