“I’ve never grown up, and I don’t plan to.” — Hugh Hefner
At this point, we’ve been given a free gift, the chance to grow up the way we always imagined was possible. We’re starting to realize it’s not all about us anymore. We’re taking a look at our self-centered ways and willing to let them go.
We’ve noticed something too. Our relationships have gotten better when we stop trying to run everything. When we stop dominating conversations, when we actually listen instead of interrupting others, when we stop taking more than we give, when we stop acting entitled and demanding our own way.
Growing up in AA, we’ve noticed that when we start taking responsibility, we don’t have to be so defensive. We don’t go though life feeling under mental attack anymore. We start to settle down and exercise the serenity we’ve been praying for. Having taken Step Three, a lot of us agree we still have a long way to go.
It’s not about becoming perfect. It’s about looking at our old ways so we can change.
Do you want to be right, or do you want to be happy?
