“You never know how strong you are until being strong is your only choice.” — Bob Marley
A lot of people recognize Bob Marley the second his music comes on. Hell, a lot of those songs became anthems in the bars we used to hang around. At some point, some really smart people decided to take all his popular songs and put them in one collection for the people. That way nobody gets bogged down listening to stuff they don’t want to hear. They called it a greatest hits album, and it ended up becoming his best-selling record of all time.
That’s kind of what we’re doing when we take the Fourth Step. We’re not writing a novel. We’re not trying to sound good. We’re just being honest, searching, and fearless. What pops out is the greatest hits of our character. The patterns, the fears, the resentments, the things that keep showing up whether we like it or not. The rest of it that bogs us down, we leave behind.
And we become the best version of ourselves moving forward. Not perfect, just better. It works. It really does.
If we’re confused on how to do this process, we grab someone from AA and ask for help. There’s plenty of help out there. The only person standing in our way is ourselves.
Are you ready for your greatest hits album to drop?
