Another Day Sober

Extra Mustard

The phrase "faith the size of a mustard seed" has been around for thousands of years. The mustard seed was used because it's incredibly small, yet it grows into something far larger than anyone would expect. The lesson isn't about having big faith. It's about discovering that even the smallest amount can grow if we're willing to use it.

Most of us didn't come into recovery overflowing with belief. We came in with doubts, fear, resentment, and maybe just enough hope to walk through the door. That tiny bit of willingness was enough to get started.

Recovery has never required perfect faith. It only asks us to be open enough to take the next right step. So many of us worry about staying sober for the rest of our lives, but we don't need that kind of faith today. We only need enough faith to get through today's events and stay sober, just for today. A mustard seed is plenty.

Looking back, what was your very first mustard seed of faith in recovery?
