Another Day Sober

Straightening Out

At this point, for a lot of us, it feels like the pen has taken on a life of its own during the Fourth Step. We’ve spent some real time here, and we’ve completed the first part of the Fourth Step. Name, cause, and how it affected us… it’s all down on paper.

It’s natural to be a little emotional here. Change is happening. We’re finally looking at things we’ve carried around for a long time. So we stay close to AA. Maybe we hit a few more meetings, make a few more phone calls, and stay connected, because something is shifting.

We did it. We paired the names with the causes, and we saw how it affects us. And if we’re paying attention, patterns might already be starting to show up. But we’re not done yet.

This is where a lot of people stop, and when they do, they can end up more twisted up than when they first walked into AA. Half measures don’t clear anything up, they just stir it around. So we keep going. We’re not here to sit in this stuff. We’re here to move through it, to follow the directions all the way through and finally get free from the mess we’ve been carrying once and for all.

So are we willing to keep going… or are we about to stop right before this thing starts working?
