"You gotta give it away to keep it."
That's one of the most common sayings in AA. Some people say we don't even really start to get it until we start giving it away.
We're in a unique position. We bottomed out, came into AA, and started finding the solution. An AA member who knows how to help another alcoholic through a Fourth and Fifth Step is a uniquely useful person. We know what we're looking for because we found it in ourselves.
Helping another alcoholic's attempt at change is an undeniable gift. And after all, isn't it usually the helper who receives the help?
The more we give away what was freely given to us, the more we seem to keep.
What change in yourself have you noticed since you started helping other alcoholics?
