The Ping Test

October 27 – The Ping Test
“To be the man, you gotta beat the man!” — Ric Flair

Humility is funny. The desire to have it might be a gift, but it’s also something you’ve gotta work at every single day. My mind still wants to be the man. So before I make a move, I try to ping my thoughts through something higher — like, Okay God, you handed me this moment; don’t let me wreck it with my ego.

That little pause changes everything. Doesn’t mean I suddenly turn into a saint — it just means I give God a second to speak before my pride grabs the mic. Most days humility looks like shutting up for half a beat and remembering I’m not the main character. That’s not weakness — that’s peace.

Bill W. left me a tool for this in the Big Book with a daily check in to see where I’m getting in my own way. It’s not about guilt; it’s about growth. It's saying "Hey, how are you doing with trying to practice these principles in your life? Are you finding any weak points? Where's your growth?" Thank God for progress not perfection. Every time I see my mistake and make it right, I build the kind of self-respect that sticks — the kind that says I can stay sober, useful, and free.

When you catch yourself about to charge ahead today, can you ping it first — is this me, or is this God?
