“Pride goeth before destruction…”
We admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs… more like the exact nature of being exactly wrong.
Alcoholics hate to be wrong. Our egos rarely allow it. With a whole stack of “yeah buts” and “my part vs their part,” we can still build a case that this whole alcoholism thing is somebody else’s fault. It is not.
The ego likes to fix, sort, place blame, wiggle out of responsibility, talk about other people and why they are so bad, compare, and set us apart from the world, usually on top. It keeps us busy defending instead of getting free.
As Chuck C. said, uncover, discover, discard. There is great freedom in being wrong. We can see it, own it, learn from it, and finally drop it to make room for better things in our lives.
Where am I still trying to be right instead of free?
