October 24 – The Center Shift
“I’m looking for a record that says, ‘I’m okay, you’re okay… but in a cool way.’” — Barry (Jack Black), High Fidelity (2000)
My sponsor once told me, "It’s all either self-centeredness or others-centeredness — the whole thing.” I thought that sounded dramatic, but he was right. Every day I’m shifting between the two — me or we, take or give, control or trust.
Some days I catch myself trying to run the show again, and it doesn’t look like arrogance — it looks like stress, judgment, or the need to be right. Step 10 keeps me honest. When I’m disturbed, it’s a signal that the center has shifted back to me. The fix isn’t more control — it’s surrender, service, and a little humility.
When you feel that tightening today — that I, me, mine vibe — how can you slide the focus back to us instead?
