Alcoholics love to think we’re rational, when in reality we’re usually just rationalizers. Isn’t it funny how our “rational thinking” almost always seems to land in our favor?
One trap we waste a lot of time in is trying to find the reason we became alcoholic. Like there was one tragic event we can point to and say, “That’s it. That’s what made me this way.”
And there we go again, playing victim.
The truth is, who knows exactly why we crossed that line. Sure, life may have handed us reasons we took as great excuses to go drink, but we’re the ones who kept choosing alcohol over the situations in front of us. And somewhere in that process, we picked up habits that blocked us off from a Higher Power. Habits that basically said, leave me alone, I know what I’m doing.
And now that we actually need help, that attitude ain’t gonna cut it.
Am I still looking for reasons, or am I finally ready for solutions?
