Another Day Sober

Helping God's Kids

"Helping God's kids do the things that God's kids needed to do." — Chuck C., A New Pair of Glasses

As practicing alcoholics, many of us became expert takers. We took more than we gave. We took people's time, their trust, their peace of mind, and often their money. The funny thing is, we thought we were getting away with something, but takers are usually the real losers in life.

Then sobriety begins to change our perspective.

Maybe we go back to work. A taker's mentality says, "These people have me trapped here for eight hours. I can't wait to get out of this place." But a giver's mentality asks a different question: "God put me here today. How can I help God's kids the best I can?" The job hasn't changed. The people haven't changed. The paycheck hasn't changed. Only our perspective has.

When we stop asking, "What can I get?" and start asking, "Who can I help?" we begin to discover that helping God's kids was never about the job. It was about becoming the kind of person God can trust wherever He puts us.

When you walk into work—or anywhere else—are you thinking about what you can get from the day, or what you can give to it?
