Willingness is easy to talk about because it sounds like a feeling. We imagine that one morning we will wake up peaceful, courageous, and completely prepared to face everything on our list.
That may not happen.
Willingness often looks much less impressive. It looks like writing down the name we wanted to skip. Calling our sponsor instead of avoiding the subject. Praying for willingness when we don’t have it. Listening when someone suggests that our version of the story might not be complete.
We don’t need a dramatic spiritual experience to become willing. Sometimes willingness is simply leaving the door unlocked for God to change our mind. We may still be afraid. We may still have resentment. We may still wish there were another way. But we stop saying never.
That can be enough to begin.
What would willingness look like in action for me today?
