Another Day Sober

one day at a time

Surrender

“Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.” — Mike Tyson
A lot of us come in still "fighting to" stay sober, trying to run strategy like we’re the five-star general of our own life. We’re exhausted… but still convinced we’re in charge.
Thankfully, when we have taken Step Three, we stand on a new footing with God. And for maybe the first time, we can honestly say, “I’m done fighting.” Not my plan from here on out. Not my control. Not my war to run.
I’m accepting the thing I cannot change, I’m alcoholic.
We used to think surrender meant giving up, like losing, like laying down and quitting. But that’s only half the story. Surrender isn’t just giving up the fight. It’s walking off the battlefield where we kept getting beat up. Not looking back, we let the winning side honor the terms of surrender and guide us to safety, without getting in their way.
Where in your life does it still feel like a fight?
