H.O.W. to Wake Up

JANUARY 20 – H.O.W. to Wake Up

“It’s never too late to be who you might have been.” — George Eliot

The Big Book says the three keys to a spiritual awakening are Honesty, Open-mindedness, and Willingness — H.O.W. Simple enough, but I spent years complicating it. I was working the promises to try and get the steps. Doesn’t work like that. I thought spirituality was something you achieved once you stopped being a mess. Turns out, it starts because I’m a mess.

Honesty was my first crack of light. Open-mindedness kept it from closing. Willingness gave me the courage to walk toward it. The Big Book also says we began to get results even when we only had a willingness to believe — not a full understanding, not proof, just the tiniest opening.

It’s not about becoming holy — it’s about becoming real. Every day I get to practice the H.O.W. of waking up instead of the why me of staying stuck. Some days I forget, and that’s okay. I just start again.

What does keeping it simple look like for you right now?
