“Inventory? I love taking inventory. I take my wife's inventory all the time!” — Heard in a meeting
A personal house cleaning is in order at this point. We’ve finally made a connection with something bigger than us. Life feels different. Not perfect, but real. We’re starting to live that good life again, and we don’t want the old ways creeping back in and taking us out like they always did.
We’ve heard about this Fourth Step in the meetings. Contented members seem to talk about it like it’s some kind of rite of passage in AA. And we notice that. We want what they have. We want to grow in this new community, and yeah, we want that quiet respect that comes from actually doing the work.
Looking back at the lonely life we came from, it’s not hard to see why something has to change. We can’t keep carrying the same thinking and expect a different life. That math never worked. So instead of overthinking it, or waiting until we “feel ready,” we start making a little space for it.
Nothing dramatic. Just a decision.
We set aside some time, sit down, and begin. Not perfectly. Sometimes all at once. Just honest enough to get moving forward.
Because deep down, we know… this is how we move along on our life.
So are we ready to look at our side of the street, or are we still busy managing everyone else’s?
