Another Day Sober

one day at a time

Two Weeks

A guy walks into a priest’s office and says he’s done. Not dramatic, just tired in a way sleep doesn’t fix. He tells the priest he’s thinking about ending it. The priest doesn’t argue. He just says, “Alright. But before you do anything, give me two weeks. For the next two weeks, live like everything that happens comes from God, not as punishment, just like it’s meant for you somehow. And every time something happens, ask, ‘What’s this here to show me?’” The guy shrugs and tries it. Coffee spills, traffic cuts him off, small good moments show up. Nothing changes, but something loosens. Two weeks later he comes back. The priest asks, “You ready?” The guy laughs. Not forced, the kind that catches you off guard. “No. Not even close.” He starts talking about little things that don’t hit the same anymore, stuff he would’ve missed. By the end of it, he’s not just okay, he’s lit up. Not because life got perfect, but because he finally stepped into it instead of fighting it. The same life. Different eyes. And now he’s kind of amazed by it.

What would happen if you stopped resisting everything for the next two weeks and just asked, “What’s this here to show me?”
