Another Day Sober

one day at a time

Relief

Alcoholics are relief junkies. We’ve chased relief from our own lives like it was some hidden treasure. Bought the books, tried the miracle fixes, looked for anything to take the edge off. And for a while, nothing did it quite like booze. It gave us escape… but everything we pushed away came back the next day two-fold. That’s the cycle. Relief, crash, repeat.

But through this fourth step process, something different starts to happen. We’re not escaping anymore, we’re facing things. Writing them down, seeing them clearly. And that’s where real relief shows up. Not the quick hit. Not the temporary numb-out. Real relief. The kind that doesn’t wear off.

It starts to feel like a new foundation for life, and a big part of this new way of living is to stop fighting things we can't change with resentment. If we can finally face facts, and accept the things we cannot change, life gets a whole lot lighter. Might not like it, but we can certainly accept it.

Have you been getting better at accepting the things you cannot change?
