Alcoholics tend to read from left to right. We’ve got these resentments so ingrained in our minds that it’s hard to see them any other way. It feels automatic—name, story, how it hurt us, and then how we reacted. That’s just how it goes. Or at least, that’s how it always has gone.
But here in this work, we’re being asked to try something a little crazy… read it from right to left.
And yeah, that’s not always easy. Sometimes it’s easier with another member of AA.
And somewhere in that process, something starts to shift.
Because maybe—just maybe—if we could have kept a handle on the lashing out, we wouldn’t have hurt ourselves the way we did. And if we didn’t hurt ourselves, maybe the story wouldn’t have taken on a life of its own. And if there’s no story… maybe there’s no resentment sitting there, growing legs.
Maybe.
It’s not about ignoring anything. It’s about looking at it in black and white.
And that kind of perspective… can change everything.
Are you prepared to look at one resentment from a completely different angle—and what happens when you do?
