Today was a good day.
That might not sound like much to a nonalcoholic, but for us, that’s a miracle in plain clothes. Not a fireworks show, not some big spiritual moment… just a day where nothing owned us. No resentment chewing on us from the inside out. No replaying old conversations like a broken tape. Just a little space to breathe.
Now that the weight of resentment has been lifted off us, we can actually say that more often… today was a good day. We start stacking them. A series of good days in AA. Nothing flashy, just real. And sometimes we catch ourselves wondering why we didn’t start this process sooner.
Somehow resentment blocks us off from the spirit. It keeps us so wrapped up in ourselves that we miss the beauty of life completely. We’re too busy thinking, replaying, reacting. Meanwhile life is happening all around us. The green grass. The bright flowers. A quiet moment that used to go unnoticed. The simple truth that deep down, people are children of God, doing the best they can with what they have.
Have you woken up to this beautiful thing called life now that your resentments are set aside?
