October 31 – The Mask Comes Off
“If you don’t deal with your trash, it starts to stink.” — Unknown
Halloween used to feel like my life year-round. I wore a mask every day — the tough guy, the know-it-all, the good-time friend. That old character was my armor, built to hide the fear underneath. I didn’t realize how heavy it was until the steps gave me a chance to take it off. In this process, I finally got to take out the garbage — all the lies, guilt, and junk I’d been hiding behind.
My life used to look like a junkyard of old identities, and I was lucky to have a guide who showed me how to clean it up and start fresh. I don’t ever want to build another one. Today I’m allowed to screw up without putting the mask back on. I can admit my mistakes, make them right, and move forward.
Keeping my channel clear with a Higher Power is like keeping the lights on inside. When I don’t hide behind pride or fear, life just runs smoother. Screwing up is human; pretending I don’t is the real trick.
What part of the old costume are you still holding onto?
