October 20 – The Lazy Kind of Selfish
“We lean upon people until they fall. Then we blame them for not holding us up.” — The Little Red Book, p. 83
There’s a difference between trying to run someone’s life and just refusing to run your own. Codependence can be about control — but Over-dependence? That’s the lazy kind of selfish. It’s the spiritual version of, “Can you do it for me?”
I’ve caught myself calling three people about the same problem, acting like I’m seeking wisdom when really I just don’t want to move. I wasn’t looking for guidance — I was looking for a shortcut. I wanted to keep talking about my favorite subject: me.
It’s sneaky. It looks humble, sounds spiritual, but it’s really just comfort dressed up as connection. Laziness keeps my ego cozy and my growth on pause. Nobody can do my push-ups for me — not my sponsor, not my friends, not even God.
When you reach for the phone today, ask yourself — do I already know what to do and just not want to do it?
