Another Day Sober

It Doesn’t Hurt as Much Here

“I get knocked down, but I get up again. You’re never gonna keep me down.” — Chumbawamba (1997)

Something about sitting in a meeting makes the noise in our heads calm down. We don’t always know what it is. Maybe it’s hearing people talk about the same things we swore we’d never say out loud. Maybe it’s just not feeling alone for an hour.

We used to think nobody could understand what it’s like in our heads, but these people do. We’ve picked up some things in meetings that have actually helped. When we listen, it starts to feel like maybe we don’t have to keep figuring this out on our own.

Peace used to feel uncomfortable. Quiet can be harder than chaos.

What would it look like for us to not do this alone, just for today?
