"We were powerless over alcohol."
We were powerless. Were. Like at this very moment it became a thing of the past. Poof. Gone. Powerless until when? Until now. Until we met a friendly group of AA people going through the same thing we were.
As soon as we walk through the doors of our first meeting, we never have to drink again… unless we want to. There’s something special about this fellowship. The more we put into it, the more we seem to get back. The more honesty, willingness, and effort we bring, the more strength seems to appear out of nowhere.
So finally stumbling our way into an AA group turned out to be a gift of grace. An "adult time out" to figure out a new way of living. An opportunity to take what we finally deserve. Nobody has to live life drunk and alone anymore if they don’t want to.
When did “I have to drink” turn into “I don’t have to drink anymore” for you?
