The beauty of the birth of AA is that it created a new on-ramp to the broad highway. Written for us, by us, for people who think like we do, react like we do, and lived the same kind of destructive drinking lives we did. That’s what makes this thing different. So much advice in life bounced right off us because it came from people who didn’t understand the wiring. AA came from people who absolutely did.
As we complete the Fifth Step, it’s hard not to feel grateful for a program that finally got us pointed in the right direction. We spent years taking detours, missing exits, driving straight past warning signs, and insisting we knew a better route. Meanwhile, life kept ending in the same ditch.
Now the roadmap is laid out in front of us with precise directions from people who already made the trip. Not theory. Not self-help fluff. A real path that actually works if we stay on it.
For the first time in a long time, maybe we’re not just surviving. Maybe we’re finally headed somewhere.
