“You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find, you get what you need.”— The Rolling Stones
When we sincerely take Step Three, we’re promised something pretty radical — we now have a new Employer. Being all-powerful, He provides what we need, if we stay close to Him and perform His work well.
Looking back, can we see our old employer was drunk on the job? Taking too many “three-martini lunches,” then clocking out at “beer-thirty” and leaving a pretty good mess behind for everyone else to deal with.
The old boss is talented. Hard working. Capable of getting a lot done. Consumed by the obsession to drink, he has no mental defense once the idea takes hold.
Humiliated by King Alcohol, did we finally admit something we didn’t want to admit? We needed some friendly direction in our lives. At that point many of us finally tossed aside a little pride and asked the new Boss for help.
As we learned how to slow down a little, we started realizing something. We were being provided with exactly what we needed on a daily basis. We started to notice something — our plans, usually selfish to the core, kept getting quietly sidestepped, and somehow God’s plan kept showing up instead.
Where in your life has God offered you a better plan?
