Before We Are Halfway Through

The Big Book places the Ninth Step Promises in the middle of the work, not at the finish line.

That placement matters. The changes described there are not presented as a trophy handed out after every name is crossed off. They may begin appearing while the process is still incomplete.

It resembles cleaning a house after a long winter. The whole place may not be finished, but opening one window changes the air. A clear patch of floor can appear while three rooms remain questionable and one closet has been declared an independent nation.

The Promises describe an inner shift connected to facing the past honestly. Progress begins changing the experience before perfection ever enters the building.

What does it mean that the Promises may appear before the work is finished?
