October 13 — Bad Reception
“Muddy water is best cleared by leaving it alone.” — Alan Watts
Whenever I start thinking I’m running the show again, the signal gets fuzzy. That calm I had doesn’t disappear — it just gets buried under the static in my head. It isn’t that God goes anywhere. It’s that I get loud.
Pride, control, and judgment crank up the noise until I’m arguing with life instead of listening to it. The channel never shuts off — I just forget how to tune in. Most days, all it takes to hear it again is a little less me and a little more quiet.
Humility isn’t humiliation. It’s not making myself small or swallowing shame. It’s just turning the volume down on the part of me that insists it already knows what’s going on. When that voice softens, something truer gets a chance to speak — guidance, perspective, maybe God. I don’t lose anything by lowering the volume. I finally get to hear what I’ve been missing.
What’s been making the most static in your head lately — and what helps you turn it down?
