Maybe there are some amends we’re unwilling to make. Maybe we tell ourselves the amend is going to stir up some sort of catastrophic consequence. Maybe we don’t feel good enough about ourselves to make the amend. Maybe we’re still holding onto something. Who really needs forgiven at this point?
Maybe we’re taking our God-given sobriety for granted. We think, think, think that we’re doing this for ourselves instead of remembering that we’re people learning how to live in God’s grace. So we put the amend on the shelf and say, “Nope, not going to do it.” Maybe that’s our ego trying to hold us back from a deeper connection with the Spiritual Solution.
Our overbearing egos love to be in charge. Why would they want to give up control now? They got us this far by convincing us that we know what’s best, that we can predict what’s going to happen, and that we’re safer listening to ourselves. Maybe this is just another place where our ego wants the final say.
So we connect with a trusted friend who has followed this path. We consider their experience. We don’t have to blindly do anything, and we don’t have to figure everything out today. Maybe they help us see something we couldn’t see on our own. Maybe we find a doorway in that works for us. Maybe we become willing to consider something we had already decided was impossible.
Maybe.
Is there an amend we’ve put on the shelf, and what might be keeping us from taking another look at it?
