Having taken Step Three, we’re finally open for business.
We’ve lived fear-based lives, collecting resentments like they were worth gold. Turns out they’re fool’s gold. Now we’re ready to take stock and look at our lives, to see where our self-centered ways have been running the show. Not to beat ourselves up, just to see the truth. People make mistakes. We’re people. We need an inventory of what’s useful and what’s not, what helps us grow and what keeps dragging us backward.
We’ve made a decision not to be held back anymore. So if we’re confused about what to do next, we do something different. We ask someone in AA for help. And that connection feels right. We’re not doing this alone anymore. We find an old timer and get to work. We don’t sit on this. We set aside time and get honest, willing to look at the truth.
And something shifts. We start to feel better already. Like we’re finally moving, finally growing. A lot of us were born with the same birth defect, a head that is just entirely too hard for our own good. Left to ourselves, our hard-headed nature can’t see straight. But now we’ve got help to help us see another angle. The relief that comes with that is so wonderful, so powerful, it shows up in our entire being.
This is where Step Three starts to come alive. Not just a decision we made, but something we’re actually doing.
Are you still trying to do this on your own?
