God Is Doing for Us

The final Ninth Step Promise describes the realization that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves.

For many of us, that is almost insulting at first. We spent years attempting to manage people, outcomes, stories, and consequences with the intensity of an underqualified airport controller. Somehow the planes did not become safer.

Step Nine brings us into situations control could not repair. We can acknowledge a mistake, but we cannot force forgiveness. We can offer repair, but we cannot rewrite history. We can become honest, but we cannot manufacture peace on command.

The Promise describes peace arriving through a process larger than our management skills. What control could not produce, surrender sometimes makes room to receive.

What does the final Ninth Step Promise mean to you?
