“There is no use crying over spilt milk.” — Somebody’s Grandpa
We spilled the milk. It happens. As soon as we walk through the doors of AA, we're asking for help with the mess. It’s a shift in momentum. We accept the mess, but we don’t stare at it any longer.
Step Three finally allows us to throw the mess onto a Higher Power, like a father, and say, Hey, I made a mess of my life. Please forgive me for it all. Can you help me clean it up? I know you have the power to change my life and turn me into a winner. We become willing to ask for help and stop slopping the mess all over our lives.
When we make the decision in Step Three, something begins to change. A sense of strength begins.
Building on that idea, we’re promised something powerful—a pass through the arch to freedom. FREEDOM! And over time a lot of us who stuck around begin to see how massive AA really is. We start realizing there are freed people, not just in the microcosm of our own towns, but all over the world.
People who have turned their mess over, passed through the arch to freedom into God’s plan, and are living remarkable lives as examples that this program works—if you work it.
Do I realize today that my experience might help a lot of people?
