October 7 – Pocket Inventory
“I still haven’t found what I’m looking for.” — U2
I used to think “taking inventory” meant locking myself in a mental warehouse with a clipboard, counting defects like expired cans of guilt. But it’s simpler than that. These days, I just carry a small version in my back pocket. When I’m off, I can usually feel it — a little tension, a little ego. So I pause and ask: Was I selfish? Dishonest? Mean?
If the answer’s yes, I don’t have to spiral into self-loathing. I just call it what it is, clean it up if I can, and move on. Secrets rot fast; honesty travels light.
What’s one thing you caught yourself doing recently that made you go, “Yeah… that’s probably something I should clean up”?
