The Plan

November 2 – The Plan

“I love it when a plan comes together.” — Colonel John “Hannibal” Smith, The A-Team

The Big Book says, “On awakening, we think about the twenty-four hours ahead.” I try to do that — consider my plans, ask God to direct my thinking, and move through the day with some sort of purpose. But sometimes, just sometimes, my plans aren’t what’s going to happen. That’s where life on life’s terms shows up and humbles me.

One day I was dead set on finally taking care of my yard. I just wanted to be alone, sweat it out, get it done. Then a few guys called asking if I could take them to a meeting that night. “Ugh, great,” I thought, “don’t they know I’m busy?” But that quiet voice said, go.

So we went. And like every time I actually show up, I didn’t regret it. I heard some stuff that would save my ass down the road. After the meeting, I met a woman who would eventually become my wife a few years later. God works in mysterious ways.

I’m glad I listened to the voice instead of my strict plans — turns out His plan came together a lot better than mine ever could.

What’s one time life interrupted your plan, and you realized later it was exactly how it was supposed to go?
