Blowing Chunks

“…so you have swallowed and digested some big chunks of truth about yourself…” — Alcoholics Anonymous Big Book, p. 71

Having fearlessly and thoroughly finished that Fourth Step, we’re sitting there with a pile of stuff that can make us twitch if we start replaying it too hard, so we don’t. We’ve been given the ability to face facts about ourselves and see, quite literally, what they’re talking about when they say “unmanageable.” It’s more like a full-blown mess. We were acting out of character, the people around us reacting out of character, and our drinking turned the whole thing into a drunk life. Everything felt chaotic. Looking back now, it wasn’t just bad luck or circumstances, it was nuts. And now we’ve got some real, undeniable chunks of evidence as to why we need help. We need to be in these meetings.

We’re sitting on these chunks and now it’s time to puke them all out with someone who understands. So we seek out a close-mouthed individual and get to it. It’s time to get it out so it’s not swirling around in our lives anymore giving us the spins. Nobody likes the spins.

Have you found a closed-mouth individual to help you?
